Practical conversion guide
Convert HEIC to PNG on iPhone, Mac, or Windows
The quickest cross-device method is to use our free online converter. It processes each photo locally in your browser, so the HEIC file is not uploaded or stored.

- Select or drop one or more HEIC or HEIF photos.
- Keep PNG selected as the output format.
- Select Convert to PNG and wait for local processing.
- Download each PNG, or save the completed batch in one ZIP archive.
The converter works in current browsers on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows, Android, and ChromeOS. Select up to 15 images at a time, with a 50 MB per-file limit and a 100 MB total input limit. A batch ZIP is available when the converted outputs total 150 MB or less; larger completed files can still be downloaded individually.
Convert HEIC to PNG on iPhone or iPad
Open the converter in Safari, choose Select Images, and pick photos from your library or Files. Converted PNG files appear in Safari downloads and can be saved back to Files or Photos.
For an Apple-only alternative, the Shortcuts app can build a reusable “Convert Image” shortcut. That is useful for frequent offline conversions, while the browser tool is faster for a one-time batch.
Convert HEIC to PNG on Mac
Use the browser converter for several images at once. For a single local file, open it in Preview, choose File → Export, select PNG, and save the result.
Convert HEIC to PNG on Windows
Use the browser converter without installing an app. Windows may also open HEIC files after the required image extensions are installed, but browser conversion avoids changing system codecs when you only need a compatible PNG.
When PNG is the right output
PNG is useful for editing, print workflows, screenshots, and sites that do not accept HEIC. It avoids another lossy compression pass, but the PNG will often be much larger than the original HEIC. Choose JPEG instead when smaller files for email or web uploads are the priority.
